Educator Pathways
The Educator Pathways were developed by Ako Aotearoa to offer free, self-directed professional learning opportunities for educators.
The content includes evidence-based, practical strategies to support your learners, lesson plans, video clips, teaching tips, resources, reference guides, background information, and links to further learning opportunities.
The Educator Pathways are organised into a series of Collections. At the end of each Collection, you can complete a ‘Tohu Quiz’ and earn the course certificate.
Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Educator Pathway
This Educator Pathway supports educators to develop a strong understanding of some of the key elements of language, literacy and numeracy. It introduces the foundational skills that underpin these areas and outlines effective, evidence-informed approaches for teaching LLN strategies.

LNAAT Educator Pathway
This Educator Pathway brings together everything educators need to use the Literacy and Numeracy for Adults Assessment Tool (LNAAT) to its best advantage.
Topics include:

- Preparing learners for assessments
- Interpreting assessment reports
- Using assessment results to inform and strengthen your teaching
ALEC Literacy and Numeracy Teaching Companion
ALEC is a customised version of ChatGPT, designed to help educators embed literacy and numeracy into their teaching practice. This Educator Pathway introduces ALEC, its key features, and how to use the tool effectively to enhance teaching and learning.

Māori Cultural Capability Pathway
'Wairuatanga' (spirituality) is a traditional Māori value and practice that has evolved to include Christian beliefs and practices. This Educator Pathway explores Wairuatanga and how integrating this value can help foster a safe, inclusive and supportive teaching and learning environment.

Digital Literacy Educator Pathway
The key objective of this Educator Pathway is to support educators in developing learners' digital literacy, and to promote digital inclusion and digital equity. It covers critical and creative thinking skills, as well as the digital skills learners need to navigate online environments and use digital tools.
The Digital Literacy Educator Pathway features four Collections:

Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Educator Pathway
Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is a research-based framework that helps educators create flexible and inclusive teaching and learning environments that meet the diverse needs of all learners. UDL is about anticipating and removing barriers to learning at the planning stage, rather than waiting for obstacles to arise. The UDL Educator Pathway supports educators to put UDL principles into practice in their everyday teaching
The UDL Educator Pathway features three Collections:

Developing Learner Agency Educator Pathway
Learner agency is the art of purposefully navigating one's own learning journey. This Educator Pathway equips educators with the essential skills, strategies, and knowledge needed to foster learner agency in their learners.

Talanoa Numeracy Educator Pathway
Talanoa is the Pacific art of storytelling and discussion that leads to consensus and decision-making. Storytelling and discussion are powerful tools for educators and learners make sense of numeracy and apply it in meaningful ways. The Talanoa Numeracy Educator Pathway is designed to help educators infuse Pacific flair, wisdom, and energy into the teaching and learning of numeracy.

Tapatoru Ako Professional Practice Educator Pathway
Tapatoru is a holistic, learner-centred framework that underpins a values-based approach to tertiary education. The Tapatoru Educator Pathway supports educators to develop the skills, strategies, and knowledge needed to weave Tapatoru values into their teaching and support roles. These values include Whanaungatanga (building relationships), Manaakitanga (showing respect and care), Wairuatanga (nurturing the spirit), and Aroha (empathy).

This Educator Pathway supports educators to build their understanding of neurodiversity and neurodivergence. It explores cultural perspectives of neurodiversity and provides practical, evidence-informed strategies for supporting neurodivergent learners.
